October 24, 2016 - BEcome a Seeker of Teachers!

HEY HEY HEY (:

So... life as a missionary is still one of my favorite things ever (:

This week we had a lot of good laughs and a few cold days! We did A LOT of scripture reading and we had some amazing progression. We are continually blessed with more and more people to teach. Sister Allen and I knew we had more friends we could find.  After much prayer and hard work (working until THE very last breath even when uncomfortable) we found them! We found the people the Lord had in mind(:

Speaking of the Lord having specific people in mind, my testimony grew on shortening teaching visits for those who aren't keeping the commitments we leave with them. There was a woman the sisters were teaching a while back. When I got into the area they hadn't taught her in forever, but just hadn't officially "given her back to the Lord". We made the decision to do so. That was day two of being in the area. Well this week, we got word of a less active that wasn't on the rolls so we went to visit her. Turns out she isn't a member, but she has an amazing testimony and it sounds like the circumstances that kept her from becoming a member are dropping out of her life. When we went home to find her record I remembered that this was someone we had given time! The Lord DOES NOT forget about his people. He has a perfect plan for each of them.

Some exciting updates
of some of our Teays Valley friends:
Sister Taylor:
I sent a picture of her and her mom home a few weeks ago. She is the one that we found through referrals!
She is on Enos in the Book of Mormon!
And she is preparing to get baptized and confirmed in just TWO weeks(: She is so excited she can't hardly stand it!

Sister Bryant: She is Sister Taylor’s mom. She drinks coffee and loves it. When we first invited her to live the Word of Wisdom she was not having it. Well, she has now been living it for a week and has dumped it all out! She has now committed to live the Word of Wisdom permanently. So, we invited her to pray for strength to do so. Her baptism will come a few weeks later(:
I have faith she will as she prays and continues to come to church! She has had a speech impediment her WHOLE life. The woman is brilliant in the language of the spirit! She is taught so well by it. But she cannot read or write. We have really relied on the spirit to guide us and help us know if she is being converted. I know I JUST KNOW that this woman understands. All she can utter when I ask her what she knows the prophet is for is ," listen", but it is enough! It has been amazing to see her love for Christ and his restored gospel overpower her love for coffee.
PEOPLE. Living commandments brings joy (:

Sister Rhodes is amazing! We have never heard her pray out loud. We usually always have a member at her lessons but nothing was working out with any member. So..we went alone. We had a feeling there was a reason why. In the lesson I told her that and I expressed that I knew it was the perfect opportunity for her to try and pray out loud while we were there! SHE PRAYED! We have been working towards that for months! So the best part - Yesterday in church I am sitting in class and all of a sudden….I HEAR HER CONTRIBUTING HER COMMENTS TO THE LESSON. This was the first time ever. Progression. It is joyful (:

Okay okay my challenge: This week I have pondered so often why the hardest parts of my life seem to help me grow the most. Like, what is with this? In church, the sister giving the talk invited us to seek out teachers- by that I mean teaching opportunities! To not be frustrated or afraid of hard times or difficult circumstances, but to look at them as a precious teaching moment from God. Really though. I know it works! Comfort is not in growing zones. So that is my challenge this week(: BEcome a seeker of teachers! (teaching moments)

October 17, 2016 - Weaknesses are to BUILD OUR FAITH, NOT BREAK US DOWN

Oh, HI THERE (:

Are you having a good week? I hope so (: (: CAUSE WE DID!

The area is on FIRE! Sister Rhodes has finally picked a date! It was an incredible experience to watch her receive her witness that this is where God needs her to be!

Remember the last area where we just worked for forever and got all of those referrals and now we have a solid family we are teaching and Sister Bryant and Sister Taylor? Well, we decided we needed a new area to start the process over again. We found it (: WE contacted many of the referrals we ended up getting. We had a mom in particular that we made a return appointment with. Well, we were in the area last night for an appointment with her neighbor who didn't end up being home. We had a back up plan, but as I turned the corner I saw her light on and felt we needed to go teach her. Sister Allen couldn't decide, but she is a good companion and trusted me. WELL. WE taught her and just before we started to teach about the first vision her 12 year old son joined in. As we shared the picture of the restoration with him and told him the account they both felt the spirit SO strong. WE asked him how he felt. He said "shaky" but we dug more and he said it was a good shaky. I have thought a lot about that! I feel that now the spirit seems so calm and peaceful, but I remember being a teenager and not knowing for sure what I was feeling. It was confusing at times. I liked that his explanation of the feeling of the spirit wasn't all that glorious, but that the fruit of how he felt was goodness!

Sister Campbell paid tithing for the first time and she WAS PUMPED. I mean skipping out of church pumped. I don't think I have ever looked like that while paying tithing, but that will change (: -windows of heaven she told us. Also, she is doing the challenge with the mission, but she is going way quicker because she just can't stop! Haha, this woman is going to love the temple! She reminds me of the lesson we had in church on being a living member of the church.

I went on exchanges with Sister Lee.-yes! My old companion from Morgantown (:  I never felt I was done learning from her. I wasn't. She is amazing. She has this way of humbly helping me notice Satan and the way he attempts to lead me away. She helped me notice something in particular- HE DOES NOT want me to read the Book of Mormon with the mission. He hates it and we fight every day. BUT I am conquering it one day at a time. I have never read it all the way through, but I KNOW IT IS TRUE. I have felt its power and witnessed the doctrines of Christ taught in it purify myself and others.  It is a weak link in my testimony. I have a testimony. But I pray for conviction in it often because Satan gets me by telling me I don't have a strong testimony in it because I haven't read it all the way through. He is ruthless.  When I heard about the challenge I KNEW it was for me. I felt that God knew me and that this was his way of helping me do something I had never been able to fight through on my own. At first I felt dumb that I would need so much help! I felt prideful and ashamed that it took the mission doing it together to get me to do it. BUT I felt God's love and his desire to strengthen me.  I work my but off to not be a weak link in the mission. I want to have a positive effect. And I want to constantly help others do the same. But I felt like a weak link in the mission because this was so hard for me! I then remembered that weaknesses are to BUILD OUR FAITH, NOT BREAK US DOWN. Done. Once I remembered that I could do hard things with faith it became easier.  Thanks to the love and support of the missionaries around me AND me choosing to be humble and accept help, I am reading it and LOVING IT! I know God doesn't want me to feel discouraged because of what I don't do. I have weakness and that is okay!

The work is amazing here. My challenge for you this week is to figure out how Satan is attempting to lead you away to destruction. Don't be discouraged, ashamed, or prideful, but remember that weaknesses are to BUILD OUR FAITH, NOT BREAK US DOWN.

I love you! I pray that each one of you who reads this will be inspired by the spirit of repentance to CHANGE. Please don't ever read my emails and walk away doing what you have always done!  Take a second to record what you want to improve in your life as a living member of Christ’s church- and if you aren't a member I plead with you to consider why you aren't giving yourself the opportunity to fully partake of the blessings Christ offers us! None of us are perfect at living the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Let's be better together (:

Love ya much!

October 10, 2016 - BEcome Grateful, TRULY GRATEFUL for His Gospel (:

HEY HEY HEY! HALF WAY?

Where has the time gone? -The answer is to some of the best 9 months of my life. Wouldn't you agree? I have changed so much! I feel I am becoming more like Christ…I have a long way to go, but I am getting there, baby steps!

So, I just thought I would let you know that the temperature has completely flopped. We are now wearing sweaters people. It is big news.

Okay okay, on other notes:

It has been four days and I still feel like I could write a novel, but don't worry, I will spare you the novel and just give you the highlights (:

Sister Rhodes came to a baptism for a man the sisters in Charleston were teaching even though she has a terrible cough (if you need something to pray for, pray that she will feel better once and for all). Her faith is progressing because her response to the question, "How did you like it?" expresses much better things these days. Haha, at the beginning of teaching her I would ask that, after church and every time she would say, "Well, it was different!" Uh...what does that mean haha?! BUT when we asked her about the baptism she told us that it was different, but that she LIKED IT. NICE. baby steps. Her faith has grown so much in Christ as she has read the Book of Mormon. It truly is A BIG LOVE LETTER FROM GOD. I testify of that as I watch her read it. She slowly inches her way to becoming a member of this church!

Prayer and Faith bring out the humor in God: So, we have these people that we are teaching who can't have us come in the house because their dad is sick. So, we can only teach them when they are outside. Well, good news is this is all ending because their house is finally ready (also miracle of prayer). Sister Allen and I planned our whole day around being at that house at 6:00. We said a prayer and promised God that we would follow our plan that whole day to a T so that we could be there. Then we asked that they could be outside. So get this, we are walking up to the house and I look on the porch, but see no one. Then at that same instant Sister Allen says, "look who is walking towards us!" HAHA NICE. GUYS THEY ARE NEVER OUTSIDE. Even better than being outside they were walking straight towards us. If we ask for God’s help and we are obedient, HE WILL HELP US.

I love reading the Book of Mormon as a mission! I feel that Heavenly Father truly knows me. He knows the things I need help with. He knows that I have struggled to read the Book of Mormon all the way through. It is probably the thing I am most ashamed about. That I have yet to do that. I have such a testimony of the Book of Mormon, but not as strong as God needs it to be! There is a power in reading every single word over and over again. PEOPLE, it is never too late to start and you have never read it enough! I have found that getting a brand new copy and reading it with no markings helps new things that God needs to tell you stick out. I really hope if you are reading this that you feel the strength I have received as I have read and that it will inspire you to read the Book of Mormon more often as well! Every time we hear about a miracle Sister Allen says, "It's because of the Book of Mormon reading!" Have I mentioned I love her?  As I have been reading the scriptures, I find the word power a lot. Power really does come from living the principles and being obedient to the laws! My mission president said something once that hit me so hard! "If you want power, plug in". That has changed the way I view the gospel (:

We have this woman named Sister Strong in our ward. She is a beast. She is Sister Campbell's visiting teacher (a member that is given responsibility to visit another sister and give help/support as needed). We were at her house last night for a lesson and she gave Sister Campbell a promise that I just had to share. She told her, " If you read the Book of Mormon it will help you understand the Bible better!" It was so simple, but so true! If I had to read each individual book of scripture all on its own, it would be hard to understand! The scriptures are incredible. They teach us to KNOW our Savior Jesus Christ!

Last thing I promise. Sister Campbell is DOING SO WELL. The other night she told us that she has a picture of the temple hanging up in her room and that she looks at it every night. Every time I look at her I feel so much love for my Savior and his gospel. I took his teachings for granted before my mission. It truly is Faith in him, in his sacrifice, and in his gospel that makes me as happy as I am. If you wonder why I am so happy all of the time.. IT IS BECAUSE OF HIM! I wish I would have prayed to more fully appreciate his gospel more. I feel that as I invest my time and effort in teaching His gospel that I come closer to the true divinity of His gospel! PLEASE! Do what you can and make a plan to BEcome grateful, TRULY GRATEFUL for His gospel (:

I LOVE YOU!!!
I love my calling! I love it(:

October 5, 2016 - BEcome an Investor, Not Just Someone Who Sacrifices

OKAY OKAY!
Remember how I love being a missionary? Well, I still do. If there was enough time to tell you everything I would. I can't so I will just tell you what comes to my head. (:
I LOVE YOU. Whoever you are, thanks for reading!
I loved conference. I LOVED it! Something I learned:  Have your own testimony of Christ and his restored gospel and BUILD IT EVERY SECOND. Not just every day.
My testimony grew in fasting:
Sister Rhodes has been progressing, but it has been such a slow progression. It has taught me to truly be patient and long suffering. I have come to love her more than I ever thought possible. I see how sacrifice creates a love and a bond like no other. Sister Allen and I knew that we needed to elevate our teaching and that we really needed to understand what we could do to help. Prayer just wasn't enough. We planned to gather up all of the revelation we received for her for the past few weeks and to fast. Our goal was to help her receive a spiritual witness. She has been sicker than a dog (attack from all sides) and her member friend decided we needed to help her clean...so we took time to help her clean and then we had a lesson. HER HEART WAS SO SOFT. This was the second time we had helped with the house and we had planned this lesson with so much unity I felt like one missionary. Well, Sister Rhodes told us during the lesson that she is leaning towards becoming a member of the church! WHAT? OKAY!!!! So, by nothing we said or planned to teach she received that witness because she had been acting and because we had the faith to move mountains (or in this case I would say hearts). So all in all, she finally got a witness that this is the path God wants us on! I sat in that lesson smiling ear to ear thinking "You fasted with faith and it helped".
NICE!
Sister Allen and I were talking during exercise: she said something that hit me that her mom once said to her. "I feel like the more I try and give to the Lord the more he just blesses me more than what I can give". When we do our part…it is an investment! NOT a sacrifice. My challenge this week is to BEcome an investor, not just someone who sacrifices. HAVE SOME TRUST IN THE LORD! He is ALMIGHTY. If we do our little part, it will not be a sacrifice but rather an investment! –There is a quote by Gordon B Hinckley about this. (: I think it is him.  But really though, this vision adjustment changes your whole view of the gospel.
News: Sister Allen and I are staying in Teays Valley! Other news: Sister Lee IS MY NEW SISTER TRAINING LEADER. If you can't remember she was my second companion in Morgantown and they just taught and baptized members of my family so we have lots of fun stories to hear about. She is an amazing missionary. I never felt like I was done learning from her..sooo ROUND 2. I really wasn't done haha!
KEEP SWIMMING(: (swimming is a good analogy because it requires all of our concentration and effort!
Have a good four days! (:

Sister Thorton.

Emily! She and her dad feed us EVERY WEEK. We love this family!

We got Disneyland cookies in the mail and we REALLY enjoyed them (:

Cleaning Sister Rhodes' kitchen. It was fun and helped her so much!

...and we were going to be late to Sister Campbell's lesson so we arrived like this and had to change. Her reaction: "you got out of the car and I was shocked that you owned normal people clothes!" ..HA.

Sister Allen made me dinner a few weeks back. It was really good and I just wanted you all to see that missionaries can cook (:

Sister Campbell! She has been to church 5 times now. I LOVE HER. And most of all, I love seeing her face light up when she learns something new about the gospel. She is incredible!

Baptism in Morgantown! Sister Hill and her son, my family members Sister Lee and I found just before I transferred. Blessed, happy day!

September 26, 2016 - BEcome a "With Your Heart" Listener!

HEY HEY HEY!

Soo….This week I learned A LOT and we had some VERY cool things happen.

First off Sister Rhodes is doing SO WELL. This week she was able to get a priesthood blessing for her back which was insane because for weeks she just wouldn't take the step, but she did and it was incredible to see the power of God bless her! It just looked like a weight was lifted off of her shoulders. We have had some incredible lessons with her and she knows that the Book of Mormon is true because she has continued to put the work in to know! We are praying so hard that she will find the strength to commit to a baptism date. As we were at her home with the Wilkinson's they shared with her that she needed to focus on her testimony. It reminded me that unless our faith in Christ is continually strengthened it is impossible to continually do hard things! She was sick for church yesterday morning, but last night we had a fireside. The Elders said that when she walked in she told them that she fought to be there last night. As she left her smile stretched from ear to ear. IT WAS THE BIGGEST SMILE I HAVE EVER SEEN. I was so joyful to see her so happy because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Another Miracle: Sister Campbell came to the broadcast on Saturday for all the women of our church. The whole time her face was fixed strictly on that screen and she was listening so intently I could have blown a horn in her ear and she wouldn't have been able to hear me. At the end we were asking her how it was and she told us the she felt like the talks were just for her. THE SPIRIT IS SO COOL. We are so blessed to have God's mouth pieces here on the earth today to lead and guide us and give us his word: it is so sweet!
We see success as we are obedient. I felt discouraged this week at times when I felt that I wasn't perfect, but I stepped back and remembered that the Lord just asks us to give our all and if we look for all of the imperfections in that we will find them. I am hard on myself. Harder than I should be at times. It is a struggle to find that balance, but I know I will! The good thing is, I am really good at knowing what I desire to become better at and I am learning how to plan to reach those goals.
We felt like we should be praying for media referrals. We did. We got one a few days later. Sometimes it is just a matter of asking haha!
Well, I LOVE MY CALLING. I hope you can see my smile through this screen as I say it.

SOOO CONFERENCE IS COMING UP!
My challenge this week is simple: BEcome a "with your heart" listener! I feel that there is no better place to be this next weekend than with Jesus Christ as he speaks to us through his beloved prophets, apostles, and other church leaders! HE LOVES US AND STILL SPEAKS TO US. I know if we listen not just with our hearts, but with our ears: HE WILL ANSWER.

September 19, 2016 - HOW BIG IS YOUR SMILE?(:

HEY YOO!

So... this week we saw miracle after miracle after miracle.

We have been working this one street like it is the only street in our area (figure of speech we work other places too). It is the one I mentioned we got a bazillion referrals to. WELL last week we were walking to our car and we felt the need to go back and try one of our referrals. We tried them and it was the sweetest mom and daughter in the most humble of circumstances. They didn't have much on their walls, but they did have a picture of Christ taped on their wall. THEY LOVED OUR MESSAGE and felt the spirit so strong as we shared how God reached out to Joseph Smith and called him as a prophet.
We have been teaching them ever since and they are amazing. When the members came over, they realized how much they needed and just INSTANTLY STARTED TO HELP. We couldn't coordinate fast enough the service to bring them in an old couch or to help find some clothes for church on Sunday. COOL. I LOVE MEMBERS. They did it all and we did the bulk of the teaching and together we helped them so much. They were able to come to church this Sunday and feel of the spirit there. More to come on Sister Bryant and Sister Taylor!

Jade and Sister Campbell came to church for the 5th time in a row! We found another long lost member of our congregation this week purely by the spirit because we were striving to be obedient. I am excited to see where that goes. It is so cool to see the progression in Sister Campbell and how much happier she is! She has a brighter light about her and the spirit is strong in her home. It is cool to think that 2 months ago we didn't know she was a member!   Anywho, the primary program for all the little kids was yesterday and Jade had her very own part! Sister Campbell's smile was SO BIG. Jade for a long time wouldn't sit in on the lessons and she was scared of taking the sacrament. She is only first grade so we weren't sure how much she understood. Sister Allen was persistent that we taught her about why we take the sacrament. We did and guess what! She understood what it was and took it (: Do we really understand the meaning of sacrament? If we did….I KNOW we would make more sacrifice to be taking it Sunday as we remember Christ and be more excited about doing so!(:  HOW BIG IS YOUR SMILE WHEN YOU TAKE THE SACRAMENT? The more understanding we have the bigger it gets. It is for all of God's children. It IS sacred. It is LIFECHANGING.  I encourage you to BEcome excited for the Sacrament(:

So, next cool thing. We were asked to teach the primary kiddos about missionary work. We had them line up and knock on the door to be missionaries. They are the simplest teachers! When Jade got to the door….SHE KNEW WHAT MISSIONARIES DID. She said they taught about Christ and then looked at us and said, he loves you. It was a tender moment for me as the spirit taught me that NO effort is wasted. Asking her to pray, sit in, and just simply telling her that Christ loves her has sunk in. Cool that we never told her what we did, we showed her and she totally understood our purpose plainly by example. Kids are so cool.

One more thing, we have taught a small amount to a very interested family that has had an uproar in their lives lately. We were taking with her about opposition the other day, she says to us: "no offense to you, but ever since we have been learning from you and reading the scriptures we have had so many bad things happen to our family!' HA. OPPOSITION IS REAL. She told us that she realized where that bad was coming from. They are so hungry for the gospel I LOVE IT. (did I mention they are on the SAME STREET mentioned earlier? My testimony is growing in the whole stay in an area thing. If we think we can't do missionary work because we have lived in the same neighborhood or apartment for a long time….we are WRONG. God always prepares people to hear about the gospel! (:)

I find joy in knowing that I went from being taught that same lesson in primary to it really becoming my dream! I LOVE MY CALLING.

UPDATE ON MORGANTOWN: Remember how I have changed my attitude? I think it is cool how our faith can work miracles even if we aren't there to teach anymore. I was a small small part of that! This is from Sister Lee!

Definitely the highlight of the week was having a lesson with Sister
Hill, Damion, and our Bishop. Bishop Hoskin told Sister Hill that the
ward loves her and they are willing to make sacrifices to help her and
her family. She got emotional and said that she was so grateful for
the church. She bore her testimony about how the gospel has made her
so happy. She said that she has seen such a huge difference in her
life since she has come to church, read the Book of Mormon, and said
her prayers. She said she believes that this was all meant to be.

As she was bearing her testimony, I looked around the room at my
current circumstances. Here I am, in the middle of nowhere West
Virginia. With a woman whose family is from Blackfoot, Idaho. Who I
found with my companion, Sister Campbell, who is from Blackfoot,
Idaho. Having a lesson with Bishop Hoskin who is also from Blackfoot,
Idaho. The Spirit was so strong and I had a thought come to my mind.
"This is exactly where I needed you to be at this very moment. There
are no coincidences." :)

We had some great lessons with the Hill family this week! Ahh I just
love them. It's hard for me to explain how much they mean to me. They
had their baptismal interviews this week and passed! We are just so
excited for their baptismal day. Keep them in your prayers.

September 12, 2016 - NEGATIVE THOUGHTS: THEY ARE NOT FROM GOD

So this week we HAD AN INCREDIBLE WEEK.

I wish I could tell you everything cool that happened but I will just say a few things!

So, we have been trying to work with members and help them get the love of missionary work into their hearts. We have a fireside and we invited a young boy to bear his testimony at it. It came as a very strong prompting to me and I wondered why. Well on Sunday he showed up with three of his football friends! Haha the Lord just knew he needed a little push. COOL! Can't wait to hear his testimony at the fireside.

I decided to change my attitude a few weeks ago to more of an expectation that I was going to see more conversion. Well, apparently, that was what was missing from my missionary work because I AM SEEING BIG MIRACLES. Bigger than ever before. It hit me last night that I can't ever do or see anything that I haven't even imagined or had any faith in happening. Miracles happen after the trial of our faith. Sometimes it is just elevating our belief or trust that it could happen! (I hope that makes sense).

We worked this one street like it was the only street in our area and after around 8 referrals we are seeing this area COME ALIVE. We found an awesome family and it has been amazing to see the dads heart just completely soften towards the gospel. They are going through a lot. Please keep them in your prayers.

Just a fun little story: The other day Sister Allen and I worked an area and found nothing promising. As we were leaving, Sister Allen said something about this area just not being any good right now. I felt my heart sink and instantly I recognized what a lie that was! I immediately turned around and we talked to the first person we saw because I felt like if Satan was working that hard on our hearts there is someone prepared to hear the gospel there! I realized how even the smallest negative thought comes from the evil one! My challenge this week is to BEcome quick to recognize the negative thoughts you have and then remember who they come from! THEY ARE NOT FROM GOD.  Only good things come from him (:

My testimony grew so much in the Book of Mormon this week when I left my scriptures 10ft away from me and then ended up not having time to go get them and share a scripture. I cried myself to sleep that night because my heart just ached that I couldn't share Alma 40:11 with her after a death in her family! I realized how true I know the scriptures are. Cool experience.

Well, I love you all and I love being a representative of Jesus Christ! President talks about how our calling from him TRUMPS all of the opposition we face. Sure, I feel closer to the devil than ever before, but that is because I am getting closer and closer to God. With all good, there is the evil there to oppose it! gospel principle (:

Love, Sister Campbell

Shout out to Asher, Lili, and K for getting baptized!! Woohoo!
